Mardi Gras came early for Florida State fans. Especially those who made the trip deep in Bayou country to watch their Seminoles take on LSU right in the Tigers’ own backyard. A trip made well worth it by a blocked extra point attempt on the final play of the game. The ‘Noles never make it easy for their fans. But two games into Mike Norvell’s fourth season in Tallahassee, these fans have reason to believe once again.

In his postgame press conference, Norvell heaped praise onto the fans, particularly the contention that showed up and showed out in New Orleans Sunday night. Going into a game vs. LSU in New Orleans, everyone would’ve expected the Tigers fans to dominate the stands. Alas, the FSU fans showed up in droves and absolutely made a difference for Norvell’s club.

Here was his message to the fans, in the form of a profuse thank you. You can watch his comments in this video around the 10:45-mark or read them in full right below.

Mike Norvell thanks FSU fans

“I’ll say this: I need to take a moment and just thank all of our our Seminole family. I mean all the fans that were here that was incredible. And, you know, I told the guys, you know, I mean, you go into a place, a game — you go on the road, you know. Usually going into a hostile environment. Well that was an unbelievable environment, you know. I mean, it was incredible feeling the energy and the passion.

“I mean, we have the greatest fan base in college athletics. To hear them, to feel them, I mean from when we when we landed yesterday and got to the hotel. And I still — I mean, I got chills for the welcome that they had. I mean, they took over New Orleans and, you know, obviously, it was a great night for everybody and you better watch out.”

College football is so much about its fans. And Mike Norvell was in awe after Sunday’s win at the support shown from Florida State’s — at a game IN New Orleans vs. LSU. After the last half-decade, this group deserves a big night like Sunday.
