College football teams based in Florida are going to be dealing with an unforeseen challenge throughout the week. Hurricane Ian is preparing to strike the Florida coast. This could easily disrupt practice, games, travel, and the homes of players and coaches. That includes Florida State, where Mike Norvell and the Seminoles are waiting in the expected path of the storm.

While speaking to the media, Mike Norvell explained what Florida State’s plan is going to be when dealing with Hurricane Ian.

Michael Alford [Florida State’s Athletic Director] has been in conversation, and the administration and the university, has been in conversations, you know, even with the ACC last night of having alternate plans ready,” Mike Norvell said.

“It’s something we talked to the team about last night that we were going to make sure that, you know nobody knows exactly what is going to occur as the week goes on, but–our plan–we are prepping for this game. We will have plans in place if anything does occur that needs to alter that. But, right now, that’s all of our focus and, you know, making sure that guys understand that we will always have a plan in place for them.”

Mike Norvell has a plan in place for his team. However, he knows that a hurricane has the ability to impact far more than a football game.

“Then, obviously, just the thought with everybody in the state. Just of the potential of what’s coming. And just thoughts and prayers with all that’s coming through towards the end of the week,” Mike Norvell said.

From there, Mike Norvell reiterated that the decision to play the game is played isn’t his. It comes down to what the ACC and administration decide. Florida State is scheduled to play Wake Forest on October 1st.
