Mike Norvell on FSU's struggles: 'We've earned where we're at'
At this point, Florida State is who they are as a team that’s at 1-6 in 2024.
Mike Norvell knows that’s who they are too. During a press conference on Sunday, Norvell said that the Seminoles have put themselves in this position – which is one where they’ve gone from opening in the top-ten to the point where they’d have to win out just to even be bowl eligible this fall.
“We’ve earned where we’re at and that’s something that, you know, we could all hope and wish and want something different but we are where we are right now,” said Norvell.
However, despite that record, Norvell’s point was his appreciation for how the ‘Noles have still approached this season. Even though they’re all but certain to have a losing finish, they’ve continued to fight for one another.
“For this team? You know, after the game, obviously, it was a disappointed locker room. But it’s, you know, a locker room that cares about each other,” said Norvell. “I definitely am grateful for these guys and, you know, just the mindset that they’ve chosen to bring even in a, you know, difficult season that we’ve found ourselves in.”
“You know, we still get to make the choice of what we’re going to do here moving forward. I’ve seen a team that’s chosen to fight, a team that’s chosen to continue to invest and work and I’m grateful for that,” Norvell said.

Norvell added that that was evident to them in practice on Saturday after playing on Friday.
“You know, we came out yesterday and had practice. I thought it was a good work day,” noted Norvell.
Florida State is off to their worst start in almost 50 years with that record of 1-6. They’ve now had two separate losing streaks of three games. In those defeats, they’ve come by an average margin of just over a dozen.
It gets no easier for the Seminoles with a game this weekend at No. 6 Miami. Still, all they can do right now is continue to play alongside and for one another over their final five.
