Mike Norvell on transfers: Huge week ahead for those guys
As Florida State gets closer and closer to its season-opening date with LSU, a handful of transfers are doing what they can to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Coach Mike Norvell said this is as big a week as any for them.
With about half of the fall camp practices in the books, they’ve had a chance to learn some. Now it’s about applying it all in the second half.
“Continuing to get better,” Mike Norvell said. “This is going to be a huge week for our football team, especially for all those guys to look back at the last nine practices and then have a great week in our progression as we continue to move forward.”
Some of the transfers are very well known. The additions of Michigan State receiver Keon Coleman and South Carolina tight end Jaheim Bell are expected to immediately lift the offense.
Coleman is coming off a season with 798 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Bell last recorded 231 receiving yards and two touchdowns, also rushing for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
But it’s Kyle Morlock who has drawn the eye of Norvell of late.
“I mean we had a pretty good sense how they’d practice before these last eight practices,” Mike Norvell said. “Obviously Kyle was here in the spring. I thought Kyle had a great night tonight. Made some tough catches, really did some good things for us. I think he’s going to be a great weapon.”

Morlock is a transfer from Shorter, where he was a two-time All-American after recording 57 catches for 890 yars and 11 touchdowns in 24 games.
Suffice it to say, Norvell will be thrilled if his transfers continue to mesh well on offense and give the unit a little more firepower this fall.
Florida State has College Football Playoff aspirations and the people in place to make it happen with the right bounces.
The transfers will be key.
“I think the newcomer group, especially some of the offensive skill guys, really are going to help what we’re able to do,” Mike Norvell said. “Lot of playmakers, guys that are learning an offense and very smart players. So they’ll be able to give us quite a bit of versatility in how we attack.”
