Mike Norvell praises Brock Glenn after first start of season
With DJ Uiagalelei sidelined due to injuries, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell turned to his backups quarterback Brock Glenn against Clemson.
For Glenn, it was his first start of the season and it came against a very talented defense. With that did come some issues but, for his performance overall, Norvell praised Glenn.
“I thought he did a good job,” Mike Norvell said. “There were some things early, some opportunities that you’d love for us to be able to connect on, but I thought his response in the course of the game was really good. Even after the interception to come back the next drive and lead us down to a touchdown drive with some big throws. There are some things where, obviously, guys have got to help that position out in finishing plays.”
For Brock Glenn, this was his first start of the season but not his first start ever. Last season, he was put in a difficult position when due to injuries and transfers he was forced to start the Orange Bowl against Georgia. In this case, he had more experience than he had for that Orange Bowl and while the Seminoles did suffer another loss, it was an improved effort with Glenn completing 23 of 41 passes for 228 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
“But also, as we’ve got some younger players or newcomers, just the consistency of the timing and being where we’re supposed to be,” Norvell said. “There were a couple of times, whether the route depth was a little too deep or where we were holding the ball a little too long which allowed the rush to get there, and as the game progressed there were times when maybe he held the ball too long waiting to see whether things were on point with timing and just the confidence in that.”

Brock Glenn played his high school football at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee, Brock Glenn went to Florida State as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023. He was the 29th-ranked quarterback in that recruiting cycle.
“But I thought he played really well for his first start of the season against a quality team that the response and how he played, he definitely brought a great deal of energy, was able to keep plays alive with his legs and I thought he located the ball, especially in the intermediate game really well,” Norvell said. “Better than he’s shown some other times, even in practice, but came out and just absolutely ripped it and I was really proud of him for that.”
Mike Norvell will look for Brock Glenn to continue to improve this season as he continues to fill in for the injured DJ Uiagalelei. That will continue when the Seminoles play the Duke Blue Devils after their bye week.
