Mike Norvell praises Florida State's maturity coming off of short turnaround in Week 2

The Florida State Seminoles took care of business in Week 2, looking like one of the most dominant programs in all of college football. They throttled the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to the tune of a 66-13 beatdown. They looked like the team that many people thought they’d be in the preseason–one that has the potential to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Earlier in the week, FSU head coach Mike Norvell praised his team’s maturity coming off a short turnaround in Week 2.
Norvell was proud of the maturity Florida State showed
“That’s who we have to be. We talked about it. You know, you can have age and experience, but the maturity is a choice that you have to make. And what do you want it to look like? What do you want to be? What do you want to invest? We were tired,” Norvell began.
“Early in the week, I promise you. Coaching staff, all of us. That was a fast turnaround. But when it came out to Tuesday’s practice, Wednesday’s practice. I mean, it was, the output was there. It wasn’t always the cleanest as I told you guys on Wednesday, but it wasn’t from a lack of want to. And to see guys invest in that work just to get better. Because that is the objective here. Every day, we’ve gotta come out, we’ve gotta be better than what we’ve been. I thought that there were definitely some strides that we took throughout this week. And it does show the maturity. It shows the want to. It shows the belief and the willingness to sacrifice,” Norvell said.
Florida State had a dominant showing on the ground, rolling up over 300 yards of rushing and four touchdowns. FSU got 79 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground from Trey Benson. The Seminoles got two touchdowns through the air from Jordan Travis and two touchdowns from Tate Rodemaker in mop up duty.

In their first game of the season against the LSU Tigers, Florida State had the type of performance that made much of the nation believe they can contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff this year. The Seminoles outscored the Tigers 21-7 in the fourth quarter, handing Brian Kelly another blowout defeat in a Top 10 matchup. It’s something he’s struggled with throughout his career. Outside of a few mind-boggling throws, Jordan Travis looked spectacular, completing 23 of 31 passes for 342 yards, while tossing four touchdowns and one interception.
Wide receiver Keon Coleman played like a future first round draft pick in that game, hauling in nine catches for 122 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
FSU takes on the Boston College Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff for that one is slated for Noon EST.
