“You know, it’s been a good week. We try to throw a lot on them here especially in Week 1. Just the variety of looks that we could see. You can go back and you watch every game from this year. Whether it’s the defensive coordinator that came from Cal-U (Pa.) [Mike Craig]. Watch all of Duquesne and get a sense of the personnel who they’re gonna be going against. And then you really have no clue what to expect based off how that transition’s gonna go. So, we’ve tried to throw a lot at them. Present a lot of different looks. So, it’s just that consistency and communication. And guys competing to be able to execute at that consistent basis,” Norvell said on Wednesday following practice.

Norvell was also asked about whether his wide receiver lineup is locked in and whether he thinks the position will see a lot of growth this season. To which the Seminole headman gave a long answer updating folks on the wide receivers in Tallahassee.

“I mean, no. But guys that can impact and, you know, to be able to keep guys playing at an elite level throughout the course of the game. I mean, we want to play with tempo. We want to be able to play fast and, you know, if you’re snapping the ball 85 times and all of those guys that are in the rotation have an impact on special teams as well.

“I mean, I think you got a chance to to really be, you know, a very solid group. And, you know, yes, you’re going to have you know guys that emerge as go-to guys. But you know, ultimately, I mean, you’re going to be a go-to guy when the ball’s coming to you. So you have to be on point. You have to focus on on those little things and details. Then you got to make plays. And you get the opportunity.

“You know, in my coaching career, I’d say probably closer to you know seven. I mean, but if we have nine and some guys can help in different phases, you know, so be it. That’s not a bad thing. So you you might have and you probably think you will going into this game, guys that aren’t necessarily experienced…I fully expect that. Just you never know how it’s going to play out.

“But, you know, I feel very confident in the depth that’s been developed at that group and the way those guys are working. And now, with whatever the opportunities are, they’re going to get a chance to show exactly who they are and what they’re all about. And, you know, some guys will get more and some guys will get less,” Norvell said.
