An undisclosed personal issue has kept 2021 Florida State WR commit Destyn Hill away from football. Nearly two years later, Hill has enrolled with the university and will join the team this summer.

Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell revealed the latest on Hill, and where he is on the way to getting back onto the field before the start of the 2023 college football season.

“We’re excited to have him here. I told him to trust the process. One of the things that makes him special is the sense of urgency that he brings, the intensity in how he plays and the way he prepares,” Norvell said during the ACC spring meetings. “He’s been working for a long time, preparing to get here and be ready to make an impact. I told him to trust the process, come in and work every day to be his best.

“He wants it all — that’s a great thing to have. But he needs to take it one step at a time and if he can do that daily and get better. But I’m excited to see what he brings and am definitely looking forward to get started with workouts and see exactly where he is.”

Norvell said that he has been keeping close contact with those that are close to the 2021 signee. He has gauged Hill’s development in that time and now it’s up to him to carve out his own stop on FSU’s roster. There’s been a lot of anticipation on Hill’s part to get on the field for the ‘Noles, that dream is now close to being realized.

Hill was a four-star recruit when he signed with Florida State out of Edna Karr High School in 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 112 player in the class and No. 18 overall wide receiver.

During his preps career, Hill caught 54 passes for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns during his breakout 2019 junior season. In 2020, he followed that up with 38 catches — 15 of which went into the end zone.

Still, it’s been 33 months since Hill’s last football game. There will be a learning curve as he adjusts to the college game, but Norvell is expecting him to catch on just fine as the offseason bleeds into summer ball.
