Florida State got another big boost Saturday when star EDGE Jared Verse announced his decision to return to Tallahassee next year. Understandably, Mike Norvell is excited.

Verse cemented himself as the top player on the Seminoles’ defense in his first season after transferring from Albany. Although he battled some injuries throughout the year, he still looked like he could’ve been a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Instead, he’s running it back for another year with Florida State — and Norvell couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Great Day to be a Florida State Seminole!!!!” Norvell tweeted Saturday morning. “#Playmaker @JaredVerse1 is running it back! Been a great week seeing the #NoleFamily and #Tribe 23 come together! Monday the #CLIMB continues! Future is bright in Tallahassee!”

Verse had a monster 2022 season for Florida State, totaling 48 tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks in 12 games. He’ll look to be a key piece again next year for the Seminoles, who are already getting to work in the transfer portal to build the roster.

Florida State has nine transfers committed, led by former Virginia cornerback Fentrell Cypress, who’s the No. 2 transfer to hit the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. Two other top-10 transfers — former Western Michigan defensive lineman Braden Fiske and former UTEP offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers — have also committed to Norvell and the Seminoles.

Norvell keeps adding to a Florida State team that went 10-3 overall and 5-3 in ACC play this past season. That’s likely a factor in his decision to come back and try to compete for an ACC title.

In his tweet announcing his return to the Seminoles, Verse had a short — but clear — message for fans who want to see another impressive season.

“We’re not done yet,” Verse said. “See you in 2023.”
