Mike Norvell reveals how Brock Glenn reacted to being benched for Luke Kromenhoek in loss to Duke
The Florida State Seminoles lost to the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night. With that, head coach Mike Norvell saw his team fall to 1-6 on the season while questions about the quarterback position continued to grow.
At one point, Mike Norvell made the decision to bench quarterback Brock Glenn for Luke Kromenhoek. It was a decision that he didn’t make lightly and felt that Glenn handled as well as he possibly could have.
“Brock, obviously, the early turnovers were something that nobody wants,” Mike Norvell said on the Monday after the game. “Nobody was ever expecting to have, and I mean, for that to happen on three consecutive plays, it was, was, was really tough. But I thought he showed an incredible amount of maturity. I mean, I did expect there would be a time that he would be able to come back into the game.”
Brock Glenn finished the game going nine for 19 for 110 yards and two interceptions. One of those interceptions was a pick-six and he also fumbled. Those turnovers came on three consecutive snaps and led to 17 out of Duke’s 23 total points in the game. When Luke Kromenhoek came into the game he completed three of seven passes for 19 yards.
“And I thought he handled that really well, and was able to, to kind of maintain his poise, and you’ll go out there and do some good things there whenever he returned,” Norvell said. “And so, you know, it’s, for those guys, I mean, it’s, they’re so, so close, so young in their careers, you know, that every, every rep, every opportunity, you got a chance for, for great growth.”
Brock Glenn came to Florida State as a three-star recruit and the 29th-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He saw playing time as a freshman against Georgia in the Orange Bowl and became the starter for Florida State in 2024 as a replacement for the injured DJ Uiagalelei.
For his part, Luke Kromenhoek was a four-star recruit and the fourth-ranked quarterback overall in the Class of 2024. The 45th-ranked recruit nationally that cycle, he played his high school football at Benedictine Military School in Georgia.

“And, you know, we expect that to, for you here, as this week progresses, and as we continue to move forward, we’ve got to eliminate…the missed opportunities with the drop balls,” Norvell said. “I thought some of the penalties and perimeter blocking have got to be better. You know, we just have to continue to, to improve on that, because those are things that are, are absolutely hurting us, and leaving points, leaving explosives out there on the field, and we got to capitalize on all those, on all those opportunities.”
Florida State will need to take advantage of every available opportunity next week when the Seminoles take on the Miami Hurricanes.
Mike Norvell addresses FSU’s plan at QB between Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek
Ahead of the Miami game, Mike Norvell addressed the team’s plan at quarterback between Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek.
“We’ll evaluate all things as it goes into this week on that,” Norvell said. “Obviously, like I said, I was pleased with with Brock and how he was able to respond coming back in the game. Obviously, for Luke, he was able to do so. Those guys are going to continue to work, we’re gonna we’re going to continue to push forward and every single one of us are going to go be better.”
