Mike Norvell says getting better is focus for second part of camp
The Florida State Seminoles are just a few weeks away from their monumental Week 1 season opener in Orlando, FL, against the LSU Tigers. The Seminoles have been preparing for this matchup and the rest of the 2023 season, giving it all they got during fall camp.
Head coach Mike Norvell revealed that the first half of Florida State’s fall camp focus was on getting better. And recently, the Seminoles’ headman said that the focus has stayed the same for the second part of their camp.
“Getting better. That’s it,” said Norvell when asked about Florida State’s focus. “I mean, it’s the same thing as the first part was. We’re establishing identity, toughness. Everything for 25 practices is just to put ourselves in the best position to go play our best whenever we get to kick it off there in Orlando. And that’s my only concern. That’s all I’m worried about because if we do that, I got a lot of confidence in this team. I got a lot of confidence in what they can do. So we’ve got to, even on the off days, whenever we have meetings, we gotta get better. And if we could do that, then this team will put itself in a good position.
Florida State must be locked in and ready to go in order to take down LSU in Week 1. Last season, the Seminoles took the first game of their two-game series against the Tigers, defeating them in their home state of Louisiana. With this year’s game slated to take place in Orlando, it is Florida State’s turn to defend its home state. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Monday Sept 3 and can be viewed on ABC.

Norvell on connection between Jordan Travis, Johnny Wilson: ‘It needs to be a good one’
Florida State has one of the best quarterback and wide receiver tandems in the ACC between Jordan Travis and Johnny Wilson. That’s a connection that Norvell knows needs to be a good one for the Seminoles.
“It needs to be a good one,” Mike Norvell said. “But what I love is you see the intensity. I mean, this is practice 11 and they went out like it was a championship game. That’s what it needs to be because if we can do that if we could consistently show up with that, it’s gonna make it that much better when game time gets here, just in the confidence of what we’re asking them to do.”
