Mike Norvell sees a lot of 'high potential' in Florida State's wide receiver room
Mike Norvell is getting giddy just thinking about what the Florida State wide receiving corps will look like in 2023.
The Seminoles bolstered their already impressive group with the addition of former Michigan State wide receiver Keon Coleman earlier in the week. Speaking with the media afterwards at the ACC Spring Meetings, Norvell explained why he believes this group has a chance to be memorable.
“I mean, I think that’s an exciting group to see,” started Norvell. “We’ve had, I think we’ve got, you know, high potential, with guys that are within our team. You know, that are diversity of skill set. You have some guys that are showing some great flashes, of what they can do. I think we’ve got a really, really talented group, and I think when you look at the newcomers that will be joining, it’s got a chance to be a very, very explosive, and you know, competitive group.
“We’ll be able to show a lot of different you know, personnel distributions, and you know, where we’re able to align our guys and we can be, I think we can create some good matchups. So you know, these guys, they know their sense of urgency, and having to go out there and perform when they get the moment to do that, but those guys are working hard in trying to build each other in that process.”

Moreover, it’s easy to see why Norvell is elated, as the 6-foot-4 Coleman joins a Florida State receiving corps that features 6-foot-7 Johnny Wilson and 6-foot-2 freshman and former four-star Hykeem Williams. With Coleman in the fold, a Florida State offense that returned a bulk of production from 2022 gains yet another proven piece as the Seminoles push for an ACC championship.
A former highly-touted recruit in his own right, Coleman stepped into a bigger role for Michigan State as a sophomore in 2022. In 12 games, Coleman caught 58 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns on a struggling Spartans squad. And on tape, he showed the ball-winning traits and top-tier athleticism to project as a true outside receiver in the NFL.
His addition represents a changing of the guard at Florida State, signaling that Norvell’s team is more than ready to compete at a national level in 2023. After a few tough seasons in Tallahassee, good times are on their way back to the Seminoles.
