The kickoff to the 2023 college football season is just around the corner. Fans, as are the players, are excited for the fast-approaching start of the football year. But what about the head coaches? Well, for the Florida State Seminoles, their head coach, Mike Norvell, is definitely amped up for the 2023 season. Recently, the Seminoles headman shared that his excitement grows every day as they get close to the start of the football year.

“I mean, I hope I’m more excited today than I was yesterday. And Lord willing, I wake up tomorrow more excited than what I was today,” said Norvell. “Every chance that we get to be together, every chance that we get to positively impact each other on this journey, there should be a sense of excitement. I’m grateful for who I get to coach, I’m grateful for who I get to coach with, (and) I’m grateful for what I get to represent. And that builds because when you pour your heart into it, when you pour your work into it, all the passion that you have, it that ownership.”

It took a few seasons under Norvell’s leadership, but he has turned the Florida State program around. The Seminoles went from 5-7 in 2021, missing out on bowl season, to a 10-3 finish in 2022, including a win over the Oklahoma Sooners and the Cheez-It Bowl. And a large part of that Norvell credits to his belief in the system, people around him, and most importantly, the players.

“I believe in these young men. I believe in the work that I’ve seen them do. We have a responsibility to honor that work. And with how we play, with how we carry ourselves, the position that they’re going to put themselves in and that we can assist with as coaches. So yeah, I’m more excited right now than I’ve ever been because of the work that’s gone into it… We’re excited for the opportunity.”

The opportunity that lies ahead of Florida State is a big one. Not since the days of Jimbo Fisher heading the program have the Seminoles been considered a legitimate contender for the national championship as they are this season. For Novell and Florida State, the stage is set for a huge year in 2023. And that is something he and all of the Florida State faithful should be excited about.
