Mike Norvell shares how he hopes to combat poaching in transfer portal
The Florida State Seminoles are in the middle of one of the worst seasons in program history. Stumbling out of the blocks to a 1-8 overall record, many of the players on the current FSU roster might be tempted to enter the transfer portal. In today’s environment and climate, the transfer portal and players contemplating it are constant forces that coaches must battle. Especially when things get tough, like the brutal season they’re going through. FSU head coach Mike Norvell recently broke down how he hopes to deal with poaching in the transfer portal.
“For us, I think I was asked that question last week about recruiting your players. And every day we step on that field that’s why recruiting opportunity for them. The time that we pour into them as people, the time we help them on the road to being the men they’re capable of being. I mean, that’s my recruiting effort. Because anybody can sit in front of them and tell them something that might sound good and get them to feel a certain way in the moment,” Norvell explained.
“But when they know it’s true and that they’re gonna be pushed. They’re gonna be challenged. They’re gonna be cared for. And you know, lifted up when they get knocked down. Those are all things that we’ve worked to do throughout the years. And then there’s also, how many times, when it’s real conversations. I’ve got guys on this team right now, probably their best opportunity to contribute and play might be somewhere else. I want to see those guys go and maximize their college career in what they can do,” Norvell continued.

“But do other people reach out? I’m sure. There’s other collectives and all the other stuff. There’s probably calls being made. But I don’t get too consumed with that. I want to make sure that these guys. They see it from us. Our effort that we have in helping develop and pour into them. And we’ve got some great ability and talent on this team that I do think has really, really bright futures as they continue to grow with us. Especially those younger classes. And you know, I’m excited about what those guys are able to do as each day goes by,” Norvell finished.
Florida State will go on the road to Notre Dame this weekend. Then on Nov. 23rd, they’ll face Charleston Southern. And on November 30th, they’ll finish the season with their heated rivals, the Florida Gators.
