Mike Norvell shares injury updates on Destyn Hill, Johnny Wilson
On Monday, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell provided updates on wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Destyn Hill. He kept his report brief.
“We’ll see where it is,” Norvell said. “I can tell you Johnny was in a really good place yesterday coming out of the game. Destyn got more work yesterday in practice than he did in the previous week. Excited to see where those guys go as the week progresses.”
Wilson’s has suffered a tumultuous few weeks. Wilson left FSU’s Week 6 win over Virginia Tech early in the second half with an injury. Although Wilson seemingly progressed the following week, he was out in the Seminoles’ win over Syracuse.
Wilson returned in FSU’s 38-20 win over Duke on Saturday, but again suffered an injury. The redshirt junior left the game after coming down with a catch in the third quarter. Despite leaving the outing early, Wilson led the Seminoles on Saturday with 58 receiving yards on five catches.
The receiver had to be helped off the field with assistance from the training staff and was taken into the injury tent for further evaluation. He was later seen being making his way to the locker room under his own power.

Despite the scene, Norvell seems to be optimistic about his condition. The FSU head coach wasn’t as cheerful about Hill’s progress, but it was still a positive update. Hill played in each of FSU’s first six games, recording five catches for 59 yards before missing the Duke game.
Whether the pair of wideouts are able to return or not, Norvell is hopeful for FSU’s receiver room.
“It does open up new opportunities. It’s good that we have depth in that position,” Norvell said of the injuries at wide receiver. “It’s good that we see guys be able to get quality reps throughout the course of the game. Now it’s just elevating the production.”
Even amid a plague of injuries, the Seminoles’ wide receivers have been exceptional this season. Florida State averages 271.4 passing yards per game, the 37th-most in the country. When Wilson and Hill fully recover, FSU’s air raid will only become more potent.
Florida State will need its passing game to be up to par this weekend. On Saturday, the Seminoles will square off against Wake Forest at noon ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
