This offseason has been very important for Mike Norvell and the Florida State football program. The same is true for Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis, who spent some time on the sidelines working his way back to full health to prepare for the upcoming year.

Since returning to the field during Florida State’s spring practices, Travis has had an undeniable impact. After Florida State’s scrimmage on Saturday, Norvell spoke to reporters and raved about the job that Travis has done, both while he’s been on the field and on the sideline.

“I mean you see rhythm and timing. I think that’s one of his great talents, is understanding that,” Norvell said of Travis. “You see the confidence. He’s building that with the guys that are around him, whether it’s in the running game, the passing game, really in all the things. Just how fast he’s able to operate and the efficiency in really all things. I think he’s doing a really good job.”

Last season was the fifth in college football for Travis. He began his collegiate career at Louisville before transferring to Florida State ahead of the 2019 season. Travis threw for over 2,500 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions across the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but last year he took a major step.

In 2022, Travis was a big part of Florida State’s step forward under Norvell. He completed 64 percent of his pass attempts, throwing for 3,214 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions, all of which were the best totals of his career. Travis also ran for 417 yards with seven more touchdowns on the ground.

Norvell is proud of how Travis has helped push other players on roster

The college football world saw last season what Travis is capable of doing on the field. But this offseason and spring he has stepped up as a leader.

Even after his time on the field in Saturday’s scrimmage was done, Travis was still hard at work. He remained on the sideline and actively engaged, attempting to help others get the ship sailing in the right direction.

“Adam, once his day was done, put (Travis) in a situation where he got him on the headset, tried to have him helping some of the young guys just with the things that needed to be talked about with those other quarterbacks,” Norvell added. “That was good. It was all good experience for him. He’s being what we need him to be. And that’s probably been the thing that I’m most proud of. When you have your top players pushing like that, it’s fun.”

Florida State started last season 4-0 before dropping three straight to fall to 4-3. The Seminoles, largely due to the strong play from Travis, then rattled off six straight wins to end the year, including a Cheez-It Bowl victory over Oklahoma to complete a 10-3 campaign.
