Mike Norvell 'so excited' for future of Darion Williamson at Florida State
Florida State is that much closer to the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma Thursday and wide receiver Darion Williamson could take the field with the offense. The young wide receiver has an exciting future with the Seminoles but was limited in action this year due to injury.
“Well, you know, he was one of those guys that towards the end of the year was, he’s played four games and so by getting that game back, you know really puts him in a position to be able to play in this one,” Norvell said. “And you know he’s been progressing well in his rehab. I think he’s doing a great job making plays. I mean, I’m so so excited about what his future can be here and he’s doing the right thing. So he had another good day today.”
In four games this season, Williamson has just six catches for 108 yards. He’s played sparingly over the course of his three seasons.
In three years with the Seminoles, Williams has 19 catches, 233 yards and 12.3 yards per catch. He has yet to score a touchdown.
As a member of the Class of 2020, Williamson was a three-star prospect out of Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 23 overall prospect in the state, the No. 139 wide receiver prospect and the No. 814 overall prospect in the class.

Alabama WR to transfer
Things are on the up and up for Florida State. It was hard to blame Norvell for feeling it during a facility groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month. Florida State went 9-3 this regular season, the best under the head coach, and has Oklahoma coming up in the Cheez-It Bowl.
“And by your sacrifice and by your work, we are about to take that next step,” Norvell said. “And we will honor you in all that we do in how we represent this program, in doing it the way that Florida State deserves to be represented. And that’s in a first-class fashion and everything that we do because the people make the place. The people make the place and there is no greater family to be a part of than the Seminole family.”
Norvell is now 17-16 as a head coach with Florida State after going 38-15 in four seasons at Memphis from 2016-19. This is the first bowl game appearance for the Seminoles under Norvell.
