Fresh off an undefeated regular season, Florida State has lost 10 out of its last 11 games. Nine of those have occurred in 2024 as Mike Norvell has not found any success. Nobody in Tallahassee expected it to get this bad, even with two games remaining on the schedule.

At the same time, Norvell has been honest about how the season has played out. The head coach once again called Florida State’s performances “unacceptable” from top to bottom. Coaches and players alike, it’s clear Norvell knows the high standard is not being met by the Seminoles.

“This year has been unacceptable,” Norvell said. “That’s from the job that we’ve done to how we’ve played. There is a standard here at Florida State when you come here, you embrace. I will say it’s part of this job and for the players that choose to come here — I tell them all the time, it’s not for everybody.”

Changes have already begun as three assistants were fired heading into the bye week. Two new coordinators plus a wide receivers coach will be entering the program this offseason. Norvell felt the changes were necessary in order to start the process of improving for 2025.

The original question asked to Norvell was what his message to the fan base was after making those moves. He understands the passion from people who support the program, even when emotions are at their highest.

“I love our fans and everyone we represent, being a part of this program,” Norvell said. “Past players, all. I’ve got to do what I feel is best to the best of my ability in leading this program and the decisions I make. There’s going to be a lot of emotions and there’s going to be a lot of emotions where our fanbase might disagree with a decision I make… The passion of that is what makes this place wonderful.”

Just two more games remain on the schedule. One against Charleston Southern, a 1-9 FCS team. You would hope Florida State can get a win on Nov. 23 and maybe gain momentum heading into the season finale against Florida.
