Mike Norvell wants Florida State to play best game of season in bowl
Florida State earned their right to a bowl game for the first time since 2019 with their 9-3 record. However, that accomplishment hasn’t changed the goals that Mike Norvell has for his team or what he expects to see out of them in the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma.
Norvell highlighted what he wanted to see during his media availability on Monday. He said that, come December 29th in Orlando, he wants the Seminoles to once again showcase their improvement and put on the best performance of their season.
“For us, it’s an everyday purpose of going out and getting better. That’s what we gotta do,” said Norvell. “The biggest thing in this bowl game is to play better than what we’ve played at any point this season. How we approach the work, the investment we’re willing to make. It is a game week approach because, today, we just have to be better than what we’ve been.”
That has been Norvell’s message all season long and it got through to his players from the start. They’ve had their best season since 2016 as they both started hot and finished strong. Now, with their first postseason appearance in three seasons approaching, Norvell says he was pleased today with his team’s energy as they prepare to give him their best in their upcoming matchup against the Sooners.

“I thought our guys brought a really good mindset, a lot of intensity,” Norvell said. “It was good to see them out there working.”
Norvell has demanded elite performances from his team all season long and, time and again, they’ve given them to him. Capitalizing this year’s run with Florida State’s first bowl win since 2017 will go a long way in solidifying Norvell’s status within the program as they move into the future with him at the helm.
