It has been an up-and-down season for Mike Norvell and his Florida State Seminoles. After a hot start, which included a win over LSU, Florida State hit a mid-season slide against a string of talented ACC opponents. Now, they’re back on a four-game winning streak, ranked in the AP Top 25, and bowl eligible for the first time since 2019.

In a rebuilding process, this has been a good season. However, Mike Norvell knows that it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.

“It’s about growth,” Mike Norvell said. “It’s about growth throughout the season.”

“We have a method of what we do and how we practice and how we continue to build throughout, but it’s still always focused on the fundamentals, the details, the discipline. It’s something we take a lot of pride in, and how we finish because that’s one of those core things to our identity that we want to be remembered by,” Mike Norvell explained.

“I think I said this the other day, it’s so easy to say it at the beginning. ‘Oh, we’re gonna finish.’ Well, what are you doing? Are you willing to do the things day-to-day to put yourself in a position to grow consistently throughout the course of the season so that you can? It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely something that we want to be one of the cornerstones of our program is what we do there at the end of the season. It shows the growth and just the belief in who we are and what we’re all about.”

As always, Florida State will finish its season against Florida. That game will be played in Tallahassee on Black Friday. It has the potential to be a major statement for Florida State at the end of a season that has been a long time coming.

Mike Norvell previewed the game with Florida

Mike Norvell knows it isn’t easy to rebuild a program. He also knows that Florida has a ton of talent. Because of that, he has nothing but respect for the Gators.

“You see talent. This is a talented team. You’ve got great size, speed, athleticism. You’ve seen them play at very high levels at different spots of the year,” Mike Norvell said.

“It’s one that is very capable and they’ve played at a high level throughout, and I mean they’re in the first year of a new staff. So, they’ve got new schemes, different things like that, but it’s a talented group we’re playing.”
