Mike Norvell weighs in on FSU WR Darion Williamson developing consistency
One player who has developed incredibly well for Florida State is the redshirt sophomore wide receiver, Darion Williamson. A young player on Mike Norvell’s offense, he has the potential to have a breakout season in 2022.
While speaking to the media, Mike Norvell gave an update on Darion Williamson’s development and consistency during the offseason.
“Unfortunately, he’s been, you know, I think I mentioned at the beginning of Fall camp, he was involved in a slight car accident that kept him from that first week,” Mike Norvell explained.

As Mike Norvell explained, missing time did impact his progression this offseason. However, Darion Williamson has done a good job getting back into the flow of things.
“[He] really came out, man, had some incredible practices. You know, was unavailable for a little stretch and you’re seeing him get back and really get back in the flow of it. Continuing to make those plays.”

Going back to his recruitment, the excitement around Darion Williamson is nothing new. As Mike Norvell pointed out, the former three-star receiver in the Class of 2020 always had great potential.
“I mean, he’s somebody we were really excited about coming, you know, whenever we got him whenever we first signed him. But we knew there would be a process, a process in his growth. You know, and just the things that we think he’s capable of doing, he’s starting to put on display,” Mike Norvell said before praising his work ethic.
Mike Norvell has options at wide receiver
Mike Norvell and the Florida State coaches are excited for the season, largely because of the weapons they have at wide receiver. That’s something that doesn’t begin or end with Darion Williamson’s potential and growth. It also extends to players like Johnny Wilson, a transfer from Arizona State.
“I mean, he’s got great size, speed, catches the ball, and has a big catch radius; he possesses the qualities you want,” said Norvell. “I think he’s done a really good job here in fall camp and preparing himself for this game week. He had some incredible plays today, and (we’re) excited about where he’s going.”
