Mike Norvell weighs in on performance of Mycah Pittman in Fall Camp
Florida State coach Mike Norvell is impressed with the progress Mycah Pittman has made. A transfer receiver from Oregon, Pittman joins the Seminoles looking to make an impact as a redshirt junior.
Although he got off to a rocky start early in camp, he appears to be finding his footing of late. After a recent practice session this week, Norvell took the time to praise Pittman for his improved play.
“He showed up big,” the coach said. “Had some great catches. He’s a very talented young man. Had some inconsistent moments to his standards here in camp, but he’s really responding well. I think the last couple of days have been trending upwards for him. Made some big plays down the field and then today I thought he was all over the place making plays. He had a couple touchdowns, red zone, all those things. It was good.”
Pittman announced that he was leaving Oregon midway through the 2021 season after having appeared in seven games. At the time he made his decision, he had recorded 197 yards receiving on 12 catches. His best year with the Ducks came as a freshman in 2019 when he finished with 18 catches for 227 yards and two touchdowns.
Furthermore, Mycah Pittman is the younger brother of Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Their father, Michael Pittman Sr., won a Super Bowl as a running back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. Coming out of high school, Mycah Pittman ranked as the No. 102 overall player and No. 20 receiver according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.

Florida State struggled this past season to finish with a 5-7 record. The passing game was a big weakness as the Seminoles finished ninth in the ACC in air yards per game and no receiver reached the 400-yard mark for the season. Pittman will aim to help change that in 2022 and has a chance to emerge as one of the top receivers this season for quarterback Jordan Travis.
But Mycah Pittman isn’t the only transfer receiver Mike Norvell brought in this offseason. The Seminoles also added 6-foot-6 Arizona State transfer Johnny Wilson, Illinois receiver Deuce Spann and West Virginia receiver Winston Wright. FSU also brings back last season’s leading receiver Ontaria Wilson, who finished with 23 catches for 382 yards and five scores.
With Norvell set to enter Year 3 in Tallahassee, he’ll hope those additions can lead to his first winning season. Florida State will kick off the 2022 season on Aug. 27 against Duquesne.
