Any time you host the nation’s No. 1 recruit it’s a big deal. But for Florida State, making sure the top 2022 prospect Marvin Jones Jr. has a good official visit is imperative.

Jones out of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage ranks as the No. 1 player in the country, according to On3. He heads to visit the Seminoles with Florida State battling GeorgiaOhio StateOklahoma and Alabama for his commitment.

Jones’ father, Marvin Jones Sr., was a star linebacker for Florida State in the 1990s, and he’s the biggest must-get recruit for the Noles in the 2022 class. Landing Jones would be a huge boost to a Florida State recruiting class that ranks at No. 13 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

The Seminoles getting the final official visit for Jones is key, so they can’t afford to swing and miss. Oklahoma is also very much in the mix for the FSU legacy, and the Crimson Tide made a big push last weekend when he was in Tuscaloosa.

Florida State hosting 4-star RB

With rival Miami coming to Tallahassee this weekend, the Florida State is going to host a monster recruiting weekend. Obviously, Jones is the headliner, but there are other important targets coming in to visit.

Las Vegas Desert Pines running back Jovantae Barnes is scheduled to also be on campus for an official visit.

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – has Barnes ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 9 running back in the country.

Five-star safety Kamari Wilson also added his name to the official visit list on Thursday.

Intel indicates the Noles are currently trailing Oklahoma – where he will take one more unofficial visit to this season – and Alabama. That means FSU has a lot of work to do this weekend to become a real threat in the race.

This will be Barnes’ first trip back to FSU since Midnight Madness on June 1.

Pittsburgh WR commit visiting Florida State

On3 Consensus three-star receiver Camden Brown of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the hottest targets in the Sunshine State. Even though he’s been committed to Pitt since late June, Florida State and Auburn have put the full-court press on him.

Brown is expected to take an official visit to FSU this weekend after he earned a scholarship from the Noles in mid-October. Brown earned the offer after Florida State head coach Mike Norvell saw him have a big game against Cardinal Gibbons. He had six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

The Palm Beach Post asked him about his commitment to the Panthers as he has been a rising recruit for teams across the country.

“I love Pitt,” Camden Brown said. “I love the coaching staff. They’re very, very consistent. (Wide receivers) coach (Brennan) Marion, (defensive line) coach (Charlie) Partridge), they hit me up on the daily. It’s great, it’s a great connection.”

Coveted juco CB also visiting

DeCarlos Nicholson is committed to Kentucky, but he’s also taking a long, long look at other schools. Florida State is on that list, and the sought-after corner will be in Tallahassee this weekend for an official visit.

Nicholson out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was also previously committed to Mississippi State and many consider him the highest-ranked junior college cornerback in the country.

Nicholson recently told On3’s OM Spirit that he’s down to four schools – Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Florida State – and that all four schools are even.

“I have an official visit planned to Florida State this weekend,” Nicholson said. “After that, I will be at the Egg Bowl, (and) then officially visit Mississippi State on December 10th. I’ll officially visit Ole Miss after for my last visit.”

Good group of unofficial visitors expected

Along with the official visitors coming to Florida State, the Noles are expecting a quality unofficial visitor list.

The biggest name in the bunch is On3 Consensus four-star EDGE Nyjalik Kelly of Fort Lauderdale Dillard. Kelly ranks as the No. 98 player in the country and the Noles are battling Miami, Clemson, Oregon and LSU for his commitment.

Also expected are On3 Consensus four-star linebacker Wesley Bissainthe of Miami Central and consensus four-star offensive tackle Julian Armella of St. Thomas Aquinas. Bissainthe lists the Noles and Canes as his top two teams. Miami, FSU, Penn State and Ohio State are working to land Armella.

There’s also a chance that Georgia commitment and On3 Consensus four-star defensive lineman Tyre West of Tifton (Ga.) Tift County will be on campus for an unofficial visit.
