Florida State won the ACC Championship Game after going unbeaten. Still, the College Football Playoff selection committee left the Seminoles out of the Playoff. It was a move that led to an outpouring of comments and statements from the school.

During an appearance on Get Up, Paul Finebaum said that everyone around Florida State needs to move on and be quiet.

“They did get it right, and can we all just stop with the fake outrage from Florida State AD and the president,” Paul Finebaum said. “I get the coach, I get the players, but the rest of the people just need to shut up already.”

Paul Finebaum then explained that the system does have issues but it’s leading to a good game in the semifinal.

“This is college football. It is not a perfect system. We have controversy every year. It helps fuel what makes the sport great, and for the coach to say, ‘It’s a sad day in college football.’ I saw people celebrating all over the place. I think we have an amazing game. Michigan and Alabama, please, Michigan was upset. They have to play Alabama.”

Ultimately, Paul Finebaum argued that that Alabama was more deserving because of the SEC Championship Game and that based on how Florida State played, there could be a bad game if the Seminoles were allowed in the Playoff.

“And let’s not forget, and Heather alluded to it, why is Alabama in this game? They beat Georgia. Remember Georgia? They were the number one team in the country all year. They were the two time defending champions going for a three-peat. That impressed the committee, and then the committee sat there and watched that travesty from the ACC Championship Game — not a travesty from the standpoint that Florida State doesn’t have an elite defense, they are, they’re fantastic,” Finebaum said.

Paul Finebaum: Committee pushed Georgia to No. 6, made it about Alabama-FSU to ‘blame Jordan Travis’

One argument that has been used against the committee’s decision to leave Florida State out is the hypocrisy of ranking Georgia behind Florida State, if they’re ranking by best and not most deserving. As Paul Finebaum explained, there was blame put on Jordan Travis for his injury.

“Georgia’s better than Florida State. We don’t know really — I don’t know how Georgia went from No. 1 to No. 6. … These people in the committee room, they have to match. I think what they didn’t want was a debate about Georgia. So they just pushed Georgia as far away from No. 1 as they could, after one loss to by the way, the No. 4 team in the country. Then they made it an Alabama-FSU debate, so they could blame it all on Jordan Travis,” Finebaum said.

“I’m not saying it’s a great system. I don’t like it. I’ve been here a million times talking about the travesty of the way they do it. But thank goodness we won’t be going through this next year. So the sport is not dead, it’s quite healthy actually.”
