Mike Norvell details how he has tried to instill confidence in Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis is locked in as the Florida State starting quarterback, starting the season off with two big wins. Next up is the beginning of ACC play, as the Seminoles face off against Louisville on Friday night. From the quarterback perspective, Travis has been showing confidence and is hoping that carries over into conference play.
Head coach Mike Norvell explained how he helped grow Travis’ confidence, saying staying consistent has been important. A lot has come from within as well, with Norvell saying Travis is doing an excellent job to clean up some of the mistakes himself instead of feedback from the coaching staff.

“Just got to be consistent,” Norvell said. “Got to be consistent as coaches, got to be consistent as players. It comes down to the work he puts in. Reps don’t necessarily build confidence. It’s when you’re able to learn the lesson, work to improve, and then apply the lesson. That’s what gives you confidence in what you’re doing. I think Jordan is a great example of that. He’s played really well the first two weeks.
“Even in times where, maybe it’s not the right decision or maybe it’s something he could clean up — he’s starting to know it before I have to tell him. And that’s a really good thing. It shows his understanding but also his desire to be the best that he can be.”

Mike Norvell showing confidence in Jordan Travis
While Travis has shown confidence in himself, the same is being reciprocated by his head coach. Norvell said there are still a few things to push through but both parties trust each other on a weekly basis.
“I think he’s confident in what I’m going to ask him to do, what Coach Tokarz is going to ask him to do. We’re very confident in the way he’s going to show up. We all got to continue to push.”
Travis has completed 64.6% of his throws in two games, going for 467 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Now, he will be going up against the school he originally committed to, Louisville, and hopes to improve the record to 3-0.
Going forward, confidence is not something the Seminoles will lack with Travis.
