We will have to wait an extra day to get the best matchup of Week 1 in college football. Florida State and LSU will face off on Sunday in Orlando, setting up an incredible rematch from last season. A lot more is known about the two programs this go-round, as everyone expects a top-10 matchup.

Florida State won Round 1 and wants to complete the series sweep. Quarterback Jordan Travis says in order to do so, staying level-headed will be key. He acknowledges LSU is going to have a ton of great players running onto the field, causing a great matchup.

But at the end of the day, Travis would take the Florida State roster over LSU’s. A nice bit of confidence heading into Labor Day weekend.

“Keep the main thing the main thing,” Travis said at the 2023 ACC Football Kickoff. “Stay level-headed, no matter what is going on. There’s going to be ups and downs, we know that. LSU is a great football team and a great defense. Have a great offense, great quarterback.

“We just got to keep the main thing the main thing. We know who we have and I would put our talent across anybody in the country. We got to prepare right. Just focus and do our thing.”

If this year’s game is anything like the one in New Orleans, there will definitely have some up and downs. The last five minutes alone had both teams thinking they would come out on top. Two fumbles caused chaos before a Florida State-blocked PAT wound up being the deciding factor.

Travis himself performed well, completing 20 of his 33 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. He outdueled Jayden Daniels in the pass game but Daniels did rush for 114 yards on 16 carries. No matter who wound up winning the game, the two quarterbacks would have played a major role in the result.

Focus has now shifted to Orlando, where Florida State will have the pseudo-home game. Jordan Travis is going to need another heroic performance to complete the series sweep against LSU. Something people in Tallahassee are confident is coming.

But the process of doing so will be a lot easier said than done. Staying focused on the task at hand seems to be Travis’ goal. Being able to keep his head during what projects to be a thrilling game could be the difference come Sept. 3.
