Report: Florida State coach Luke Loucks hiring Sacramento Kings assistant Jim Moran

First-year Florida State head coach Luke Loucks has dipped back into his NBA background to land his top assistant coach. According to the Sacramento Observer, Loucks has hired Sacramento Kings assistant Jim Moran to his first Seminoles coaching staff. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported early Thursday morning that Moran’s position at FSU will be as associate head coach/offensive coordinator.
Moran has been an NBA assistant for the last decade, working for the Portland Trail Blazers (2015-21), Detroit Pistons (2021-23), and Kings (2024-25). Prior to that, the 6-foot-7 Moran spent 10 years playing internationally for Gran Canaria in Spain. In between NBA assistant jobs, Moran also served as the first-ever head coach of the Rip City Remix, the Trail Blazers’ G-League affiliate from 2023-24.
Luke Loucks announces FSU alum, NBA star Terance Mann as Seminoles’ assistant GM
Moran is the second staffing announcement Loucks has made since his hiring, following the April 4 addition of fellow FSU alum and current Atlanta Hawks guard Terance Mann as the Seminoles’ assistant general manager. According to a press release announcing the move, Mann’s role will include “supporting strategic roster management, optimization of talent acquisition, and developing future pro basketball players on and off the court.”
“Terance Mann is a tremendous representative of Florida State,” Loucks said in the press release. “He was part of one of the best stretches in recent FSU men’s basketball history and has continued to be an impact player in the NBA. Terance loves Florida State and will now have the ability to directly influence the people within our program. He has personally seen the benefits of playing here and earning a degree from Florida State University, and he understands what it takes to make it at the next level. Terance will be a great resource for our staff and our players as we build our team and develop this program.”

Mann holds the FSU school record with 140 games played during his four-year career (2015-19) and helped lead the ‘Noles to 98 wins and three NCAA Tournament appearances. That included an Elite Eight run as a junior in 2018.
“My experience at Florida State played a tremendous role in shaping my career.” Mann said in the release. “I’m so excited to take on this role and work to help FSU get to a national championship.”
