Jalen Brown was expected to be a big offensive piece for Florida State this season but is no longer a part of the program. Brown was dismissed from the team and his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal were announced on Saturday.

Just a few hours later, the reasoning behind Brown’s dismissal has been released. The wide receiver was arrested on a third-degree felony charge in Leon County. Brown has since been released on a $2,500 bond.

“Jalen Brown was arrested early Saturday morning on a third-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, Leon County court records indicate,” Curt Weiler of Osceola Rivals said via X. “He was released on $2,500 bond and dismissed from the FSU football team less than 12 hours later.”

Brown wound up spending just one season at Florida State. His college career began in Baton Rouge with the LSU Tigers, another place he only spent one year. Mike Norvell wound up winning Brown’s second recruitment and thought he was bringing in a player for the future.

There was still some production during the 2024 season. Brown caught eight passes for 75 yards over the course of five games. As mentioned, his role was expected to increase even more with a breath of fresh air coming through Florida State’s offense.

Instead, there are now some legal issues to work through. And once officially in the transfer portal, Brown will have to find a new home.

Florida State offensive lineman Jaylen Early to enter transfer portal

Florida State Seminoles offensive lineman Jaylen Early plans to enter the Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman started seven games and appeared in 17 during his time in Tallahassee. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.

He played high school football at Duncanville (Duncanville, TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 373 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jaylen Early was recruited by a number of big-name programs, including Texas A&M and Ohio State. We’ll see who comes calling this time around, as the offensive lineman looks for a change of scenery in 2025.
