Cameron Leiter has high-quality baseball in his blood. Now, after his freshman season with UCF, he is taking that lineage with him to Tallahassee to play for Florida State.
Leiter shared his plans to enter the transfer portal less than a week ago. Then, on Sunday night, he ended his availability with the announcement of his commitment to Link Jarrett and the Seminoles.
Leiter made 14 starts in 15 appearances this season with the Knights. He ended the year with a 3-2 record. Over 56.2 innings pitches, Leiter threw for a 4.92 ERA and 80 strikeouts while allowing 53 hits and 33 runs.
That production led him to be a unanimous selection on the All-AAC Freshman Team.
Leiter is the son of Kurt Leiter who spent three seasons as a pitcher in the minor leagues back in the 1980s with affiliates for the Baltimore Orioles. He is the nephew of both Al Leiter, the two-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner who pitched for the Yankees, Blue Jays, Marlins, and Mets over two decades, and Mark Leiter, a pitcher for eight teams in over a decade in the MLB, as well.
He is also a cousin to Mark Leiter Jr., a current pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, and Jack Leiter, the No. 2 pick of the Texas Rangers in the 2021 MLB Draft.
UCF’s coaching search played a large role in Leiter’s choice to leave Orlando. After seven seasons at the helm, Greg Lovelady was relieved of his duties back at the end of May. Leiter will now join two of his former UCF teammates, Drew Faurot and Jacob Marlowe, at FSU next season.
Florida State is getting a prospect with plenty of baseball in his bloodline to come to play for them next season. The focus from here is getting Leiter to tap into that potential and really take off with them in the ACC.

Tre Richardson ties NCAA record for RBI in single postseason game
Tre Richardson had a huge day for TCU on Sunday during the Fayetteville Regional against Arkansas. He had three home runs and 11 RBI to help lead the Horned Frogs to the resounding 20-5 victory over the Razorbacks.
The performance also put him in the record books.
Richardson’s 11 RBI ties the record for the most in a single postseason game. He finished the matchup 5-for-6 with three home runs and three runs scored as TCU had its way as the Horned Frogs advanced to the regional final. They’ll take on the winner of Arkansas’ rematch with Santa Clara, which is coming up later Sunday night.
Richardson entered the day with just two home runs on the season. He also had a .310 batting average and a .811 OPS coming into the matchup.
TCU now has a 39-22 record overall as it awaits the opponent for Monday’s regional final. The winner of that game will advance to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.
