Roydell Williams injury update: Mike Norvell offers latest on FSU RB ahead of Florida game
After missing an extended period of time this season, it looks as though the Florida State Seminoles will have running back Roydell Williams back from injury. This comes just in time for the game against rival Florida.
While speaking to media members on Monday, head coach Mike Norvell addressed Roydell Williams being listed on the team’s depth chart, explaining that he expects him to be fully available.
“I do [expect him to be full go],” Mike Norvell said. “He’s done a good job of being able to push throughout the course of the last few weeks. We’ll see exactly how many plays he’s going to be able to get for us there come Saturday, but full expectation is for him to play. He started this last week and you saw the burst, the balance, the things that you want to see from a back coming off of an injury. Excited to see him back in the lineup.”
Roydell Williams is a transfer who came to Florida State after playing four seasons at Alabama. He played in three games this season, where he had 20 carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns. He also has five receptions for 46 yards. However, injury has kept him out since September.
Given that Williams has only played in three games this season, he has another available to him before he would burn his redshirt. His 2020 season at Alabama didn’t count toward his eligibility due to the pandemic.

The season as a whole has been a major disappointment for Florida State, with the Seminoles sitting at just 2-9 after their win over FCS Charleston Southern. Part of those struggles, though not all of them, have come down to the Seminoles’ struggles in the rushing game. For the year, Florida State is 129th out of 134 teams in rushing offense, averaging just 89.09 yards per game on the ground.
The primary running back to take on the workload in Roydell Williams’ absence has been Lawrance Toafili. This season, Toafili has 413 yards rushing on 100 carries and two touchdowns. He’s also fourth on the team in receiving with 22 receptions for 176 yards. Beyond Toafili, Kam Davis has 170 rushing yards for the season on 3.6 yards per carry, Caziah Holmes has 84 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 5.6 yards per carry, and Samuel Singleton has 77 rushing yards on 4.1 yards per carry.
Roydell Williams now returns for the game against the Florida Gators in Tallahassee on November 30th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
