Former Tennessee wide receiver Squirrel White has committed to Florida State via the NCAA Transfer Portal per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. White initially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 27. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

White played three seasons at Tennessee, amassing 38 appearances. While with the Volunteers, White amassed 131 catches for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns. White’s best career season came in 2023 when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns.

Unfortunately, a slew of injuries slowed White down in the 2024 campaign. He was banged up earlier in the season and was on the injury report through much of October. Nonetheless, White ultimately didn’t miss a game despite his ailments.

Although White showed toughness this season, his statistics suffered from his injuries. White recorded a career-low 381 receiving yards on 34 catches in the 2024 campaign.

White was a four-star prospect in the 2021 signing class. He played high school football at Clay-Chalkville (Al.) High School where he was the No. 371 overall prospect in the class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Now, he will look to find success at Florida State.

White transfers to Florida State following a season of offseason upheaval. Former UCF head coach Gus Malzahn will head the offense after the team moved on from previous offensive coordinator Alex Atkins following a tumultuous 2024 season.

The team’s 2024 opening day starter D.J. Uiagalelei has already declared for the NFL Draft; meanwhile, QB Luke Kromenhoek has transferred out to Mississippi State as Thomas Castellanos transfers in from Boston College to compete with Brock GlennKevin Sperry and Trevor Jackson.

Presumably, Castellonas who started his career with Malzahn at UCF will have the advantage in the battle and White will likely catch passes from him in 2025.

The transfer portal officially opened Dec. 7 and will remain open until Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
