UMass Lowell transfer guard Martin Somerville commits to Florida State

Former UMass Lowell guard Martin Somerville has committed to Florida State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Somerville was the No. 61 point guard in the transfer portal this offseason, according to On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Somerville only spent one season at UMass Lowell, where he made 32 appearances and 12 starts. He averaged 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 31.6 minutes per game. He shot 42.0% from the field and 40.5% from beyond the arc.
Somerville shot in bulk from downtown, averaging 5.8 3-point attempts per game. The 6-foot-3 freshman had his best performance of the season in UMass Lowell’s 70-62 win over NJIT on Jan. 11.
In the victory, Somerville notched a career-high 26 points and six assists while shooting 5-9 from downtown. For his excellent play in his debut campaign, Somerville was named the America East Rookie of the Year. In total, Somerville was the conference’s Rookie of the Week 11 times, breaking Tunji Awojobi’s all-time conference mark set during the 1993-94 season.
Martin Somerville played high school basketball at Southern California Academy, where he was an unranked prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He averaged 14 points and five assists per game as a senior.

Loucks was signed to a five-year deal with a starting salary of $2 million, per Warchant. Loucks also has a $1.7 million pool to hire his assistant coaches and staff with.
