West Virginia wide receiver announces transfer destination
West Virginia wide receiver Winston Wright announced he would be transferring to Florida State on Sunday. He marks the ninth transfer head coach Mike Norvell has brought into the program since the season ended.
“Everyday I try to represent my family and where I am from with everything in me,” Wright said in a statement. “I want to thank every university that has given me the opportunity to play my last year of college football and represent their program. After a lot of thought and prayer I think it is in my heart to be closer to home and around my family and community even more during this time in my life. With that being said, I would like to announce I will be continuing my college career for these next 8 months at Florida State University!!”
Wright has spent the last three seasons in Morgantown, playing in 33 career games. The wide receiver had his best year during 2021, hauling in 688 yards and five touchdowns on 63 receptions.
Coming out of high school, Wright was a three-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus. He was a top 100 prospect in the state of Georgia, being a native of Savannah. Wright was ranked the No. 118 receiver, originally a member of the 2019 recruiting class.
Wright is now the second wide receiver to commit to Florida State this transfer cycle. The Seminoles will be adding Oregon’s Mycah Pittman to the roster as well, looking to revamp the offense under Norvell heading into the 2022 season.

Florida State Seminoles pick up transfer from FCS defensive end
The Florida State Seminoles picked up a big-time transfer on Friday, in Albany defensive end Jared Verse. He announced his decision via Twitter on Friday evening. Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller’s pass rush will instantly get better with Verse getting on campus after his impressive 2020 season in the FCS.
Verse recorded 9.5 sacks last season for the Great Danes and had multiple in three different games. His career-high of two sacks came against multiple teams, with the best overall performance coming against William & Mary. Along with getting to the quarterback, Verse recorded three tackles for a loss and seven tackles.
Florida State was looking to bolster their pass rush after finishing middle of the pack in the ACC last season. The Seminoles as a team recorded 33 sacks, tied for fifth with three other teams in the conference.
Verse originally announced he would enter the transfer portal on Nov. 30.
