Bushnell (Fla.) South Sumter safety Rashad Johnson has committed to Georgia. The four-star had over 20 offers and he took official visits to multiple schools, but the Bulldogs beat Penn State in the end.

“Out of all of my schools, Georgia fit me the best,” Johnson told On3. “I felt the most comfortable at Georgia and with the Georgia coaches. I love the coaches, the fit into the defense, how the defensive scheme fits me and Georgia’s style of play. It was just the right place for me.”

Under Kirby Smart, Georgia has won two national championships and had 49 players drafted by NFL teams since 2020. The competition in Athens appeals to the No. 32 safety in the county.

“Georgia is a tough place to play. It is not easy there and I like that. I have to work and compete at Georgia. They will push me and I can’t wait for that. I think my skills fit what Georgia is looking for and I am ready to work with the coaches.”

Johnson had a ‘different feeling’ at Georgia

Georgia showed interest in Johnson early in the year. By late spring, he had moved up their board, and early in June, he picked up the offer after working out at Georgia’s camp and running the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds. The Bulldogs offered later than most, but that didn’t matter to Johnson.

“Georgia has always been a school toward the top of my list. It is a top program that I have had an interest in for a long time. After they saw my film and had me in camp, we set up the official visit and I loved it.

“On my official visit, I loved everything about it. It was a different feeling for me at Georgia. Georgia does things in a different way and I want to be part of it. They work, they compete, they win and that is why I want to be at Georgia.”

Coach Glenn Shumann visited Johnson at his school in the spring. Coach Travaris Robinson took over his recruitment from there. Johnson and Robinson have a connection and he is excited to learn from him.

“T-Rob coached my cousin (Keonu O’Neal) at Florida, so I know a lot about him and he is a great coach,” Johnson said. “We have really grown closer over the past month and my relationship is strong with him. I like how he keeps it real, how he has produced defensive backs and he will help me a lot,”
