Over 20 schools offered Thomas Blackshear, but when he made his decision this spring, it came down to Georgia and Tennessee. He had interest in both SEC programs, but he chose to stay home with the Bulldogs.

“I am going into a great program and I get to stay close to home,” Blackshear told On3. “Georgia has a great coaching staff, they are a top program that gets players drafted and they win. After talking it over with my parents, I made the decision to commit to Georgia.”

Georgia has been trending for some time. The final decision was made Monday evening. James Coley was Blackshear’s lead recruiter.

“As soon as Bryan McClendon left for the NFL, Coach Coley came in and took over. Like B-Mac, Coach Coley recruited me hard for Georgia. He is always checking in, texting me and calling me. I like Coach Coley a lot. He is a good coach, he coaches he receivers hard and he is a cool guy that has talked to me about the offense and the team.”

The No. 298 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking has visited Athens around half a dozen times. He was back at Georgia in April for a spring practice and he is excited about what he gets to be a part of under Kirby Smart.

“It is like a big family at Georgia,” Blackshear added. “The team is together, the coaches and players work well together and everyone works as a team.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Coley, I like Coach Smart’s energy and Georgia is a program that wins and gets players drafted.”
