Caleb Downs’ goal is to commit before his senior season. The five-star safety out of Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek is not locked into that, but he said that there is a 90% chance of it happening.

Official visits will play a role in his decision and he plans to take kick off the month of June with his first official visit. The No. 11 prospect in the On3 Consensus has set up his first official visit and it will be to Georgia on June 3-5.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defender has visited Athens over half a dozen times already. Downs is familiar with the in-state school.

The culture stands out most to the No. 1 prospect in the Peach State.

“The want to be the best and the will to win at Georgia is big for me,” Downs told On3. “I can relate to that. The program had a national championship drought, then they won it all this year, and now they want to work to win it all again this year. I like that drive.”

Kirby Smart is leader at Georgia and his mentality pushes the team. Downs loves Smart’s energy, will to win, and his ability to develop players.

He sees a lot of similarities in Will Muschamp.

“Those two could be twins. They are similar people and coaches. They have a lot of energy, intensity, and they are so similar.

“Coach Smart and coach Muschamp have coached and developed a lot of defensive backs too. I respect them a lot and coach Muschamp has been recruiting me for a while. I know what he has done in the past.”

The player development in Athens definitely has Downs’ attention.

“They had five defensive backs go in the NFL Draft a year ago, they will have one this year, and I am sure they will have more in the next couple of years,” Downs said. “That is one thing that really stands out about Georgia. They are going to develop players and that is something I am really look at.”

Downs is working to schedule other official visits for June.
