After winning back-to-back national championships, the Georgia Bulldogs failed to make the College Football Playoff in the 2023 season. Despite that, many people expect the Bulldogs to once again compete for a championship in the upcoming season.

Ahead of the season, several anonymous opposing coaches shared their thoughts on Georgia with Lindy’s Sports Magazine, raving about what makes the Bulldogs such a strong team.

“They’re just so physically dominant, They’re bigger and faster than any other team you see,” the first coach said. “But they play physical too – they have a culture of toughness just ingrained in them where they wear you down with their toughness and they have the bodies to go with it.”

In recent seasons, Georgia has been known for its dominant line play on both offense and defense. With that, 12 Bulldog offensive and defensive linemen have been selected in the last three NFL Drafts.

Still, even with all that success on the interior, having a great quarterback is still important. Georgia does appear to have that with Carson Beck entering his second season under center.

“Carson Beck was extremely accurate when we played them,” the second coach said. “He was very comfortable operating in their system. He didn’t make any mistakes, and you can tell that he’s a field general who sees everything around him.”

All of this success in recent years has come with head coach Kirby Smart as the team’s constant. He took over in 2016. Since then, the Bulldogs have gone 94-16 and Georgia has won two national championships.

“Kirby Smart, I always say a team takes on the identity of their head coach,” the third coach said. “And he’s tough and relentless on details. You see that on film. They’re going to recruit their tails off and out-tough you on top of that, put you in those disadvantaged spots. They do a great job.”

Georgia will begin its 2024 season with a neutral site game in Atlanta against Clemson. From there, the Bulldogs will face a difficult SEC schedule as it looks to make it to the College Football Playoff and compete at the highest level of the sport.

Kirby Smart on Georgia missing the CFP in 2023 season

Recently, and with time to put last season in perspective, Kirby Smart shared his thoughts on Georgia missing the College Football Playoff for the 2023 season.

“No, not surprised at all,” Smart said. “We had our opportunity on the field. That’s what you can ask for, not cry over it. I think we had a good football team.”

In 2024, the Playoff field will expand to 12 teams. Certainly, last season’s Georgia team would have made that expanded field.
