Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Arian Smith is currently working on translating his track speed to the football field. This should, in theory, make him a good deep threat for the offense with the ability to blow the top off the defense, stretching the field.

However, the Bulldogs will have a new quarterback in 2023 that needs to prove he can make those throws. As Smith explained, Georgia has multiple quarterbacks with big arms.

“That’s a tough question,” Arian Smith said. “I would probably either Carson [Beck] or Gunner [Stockton].”

Carson Beck is expected to be Georgia’s starting quarterback in 2023, though that could change. However, Beck, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, was the primary backup in 2022 and played in the national championship game. Meanwhile, Stockton is a four-star recruit from the Class of 2022.

“Really, all three can throw so it’s pretty hard. I’d probably say all three can throw it,” Arian Smith added.

Smith is set to focus on football this season as he tries to translate his track speed to the football field this season.

“It’s tough to give up. Like, me and Matt [Boling], we go a way back before we even got here. I do want to run. I came here to run track and play football, but my first priority was football. It’s going to be tough, but I know what I’m here for so,” Smith said.

“My mindset is to get better at football as a whole, not just going deep. Just, like, the small stuff too, everything, details, blocking, catching short routes, taking it for 50. Mostly everything, [trying to be] an all-around receiver … My long speed’s there. My short speed is what I’m focusing on. In and out of cuts. I can run, but can you stop and go?”

There is more to Arian Smith than being a deep threat, though he is that too. This spring, he’s working on proving that and improving at being an overall wide receiver for the Bulldogs.

“My mindset is get better at football, as a whole,” Smith said. “Not just going deep. Small stuff, too. Everything. Details. Blocking, catching short routes, taking it for 50. Mostly everything, all-around receiver.”

Some of that improvement has already occurred for Arian Smith, who thinks he’s improved remarkably well at blocking.

“A long way. When I first got here, I didn’t want to touch nobody.”
