Athens PD release troubling details of reckless driving arrest of Georgia OL Bo Hughley
The troublesome behavior of various Georgia football players and others associated with the program behind the wheel has not abated, with several recent incidents in the headlines in July. That includes one allegedly involving second-year offensive lineman Jonathan LeMonte ‘Bo’ Hughley.
And the Athens Police Department released a police report on the recent incident involving Hughley that recounts an apparently harrowing crash where the occupants of the vehicle — and bystanders — were fortunate not to be seriously harmed. The report, released in response to a Freedom of Information Request from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recounts how Hughley, with five-star enrollee Ellis Robinson IV riding in the passenger seat, left the road around the area of East Campus Village.
Driving a Chrysler 300, Hughley approached a stretch of road where, as one road gives way to a different street, there’s a sharp curve. According to the police report, Hughley failed to make the curve, with his vehicle hitting the curb, careening off the road and coming to rest back on the road. The right front wheel was shorn off the vehicle, rendering it immobile at the scene. A street sign for the 25 mile per hour speed limit was also taken out in the crash.
The vehicle damage, along with relevant remote camera footage, have led investigators to doubt Hughley’s claims that the duo were traveling around the 25 mile per hour speed limit when the crash happened, according to the AJC.
Hughley and another Georgia player were recently arrested for alleged offenses behind the wheel
Georgia football players Smael Mondon and Hughley were arrested earlier this week in Athens-Clarke County, according to DawgsHQ.

Hughley was arrested Tuesday evening, while the senior linebacker Mondon was arrested Wednesday night.
Both players were charged with reckless driving, DawgsHQ reports. In addition to reckless driving, Hughley was charged with a failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road. Mondon was also charged with racing on highways/streets, according to the report. The charges are all considered to be misdemeanors.
The arrests of Smael Mondon and Bo Hughley are the latest for a Georgia program that has had two other players arrested this offseason in running back Trevor Etienne and receiver Sacovie White. Etienne was charged with DUI, but his charges were dropped earlier this week after a plea deal.
Mondon is one of the top linebackers in the SEC after racking up 68 tackles for Georgia in 2023, which ranked second on the Bulldogs team. He was named a second-team All-SEC selection after appearing in 13 games, with 11 starts.
