Branson Robinson injury: Kirby Smart shares initial prognosis on Georgia running back
One of Georgia’s top running backs, Branson Robinson, went down with an injury in a win over Mississippi State on Saturday, and head coach Kirby Smart didn’t have the most promising update postgame.
Smart shared that the early belief is Robinson suffered an injury to the MCL ligament in his knee, according to Graham Coffey. The severity of it isn’t clear.
Smart added that Georgia is still awaiting MRI results on the knee to get a complete grasp on the situation.
Robinson suffered the injury during the second quarter against Mississippi State, with team trainers coming over quickly to tend to him. As they did so, they held towels up to protect the camera view.
Robinson’s right leg appeared to bend under him during a tackle on a short reception with Georgia driving into Mississippi State territory.
“I just watched Branson Robinson walk into the locker room,” SEC Network sideline reporter Alyssa Lang reported on the air. “Slight limp. he looked disappointed. I’m told by Georgia’s staff it’s a right knee injury. He is out for the remainder of today’s game.”
The talented running back had logged three carries for 12 yard and a touchdown at the time of his injury.

ultimately got a grind-it-out home win over Mississippi State on Saturday evening, but much of the postgame heat is on head coach Kirby Smart.
And it all stems from Smart shoving aside Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren while rushing to argue a call with an official on the Georgia sideline. Van Buren had run out of bounds on to the Bulldogs’ sideline and Smart, trying to get in the official’s ear about some aspect of the play, put his right arm and side into Van Buren, displacing him a few feet.
After the game, Smart addressed the moment from his perspective.
“I think I was going after [defensive coordinator Glenn] Schumann,” Smart said. “I was trying to get Schumann’s attention. We were trying to change personnel. I think it’s the play they came over to our sideline and trying to get Schumman’s attention. But, no, I don’t really remember it.”
