Even when Alabama isn’t atop the college football world, players and programs across the country give the Crimson Tide their due respect. A win over Alabama is meaningful, regardless of their record. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers admitted as much during an appearance on ‘The A Team’ earlier this week.

Bowers says Georgia would have liked to face the Tide at some point this season. It didn’t take away from their season as the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff but, considering the brand of Alabama, a win over Nick Saban’s team in the SEC Championship or in the postseason would’ve been a welcome addition according to Bowers.

“I feel like everyone always kind of feels like that, to put themselves against Alabama. We just didn’t get the shot this year,” Bowers said. “Maybe next year.”

Georgia vs. Alabama has become the new rivalry in the SEC simply because of their combined dominance in the postseason. They’ve met in two SEC Championship and College Football Playoffs since 2018. The connections between Saban and Kirby Smart add another layer to what is always a high-level matchup on the field.

In the end, they won’t meet in 2022. It won’t be the last time the two titans cross paths, though, as we look at seasons ahead as well as an eventual 12-team playoff.

Bowers makes Heisman case for Stetson Bennett

On Monday, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was named one of four finalists for this year’s Heisman Trophy, joining three other quarterbacks who have all had impressive seasons. Nobody has benefited from Bennett’s success more than tight end Brock Bowers, the teams leading receiver and Bennett’s top target, who made the case for why his quarterback should take home Heisman Trophy this year. Bowers also spoke on Bennett’s impact beyond the stats and X’s and O’s, harping on his character leadership ability.

“I mean he showed up whenever we needed him, won every big game he could, and he has the stats to back it up. So why not?” Bowers asked.

“He’s a great guy, just motivates and just keeps the team together,” Bowers said. “He’s pretty even-keeled all the time, most of us are, and that’s kind of what you want out of a quarterback, never to high never too low,” Bowers said. He throws a pick, he’ll go right back out there and throw another deep bomb.”

Bennett is the first Heisman Trophy finalist out of Georgia since running back Garrison Hearst in 1992 and, if he takes home the trophy, would be the Bulldog’s first winner since Herschel Walker in 1982. The one they call The Mailman has certainly delivered for Georgia, staying cool, calm, and collected during the process.
