Brock Bowers recalls touchdown catch in national championship game
Brock Bowers has plenty of fond memories from last season, but his touchdown catch during Georgia‘s 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game victory over Alabama may stand above them all.
To illustrate, the Bulldogs were clinging to a one-point lead over the Crimson Tide with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. On 3rd and 1 from about the 15-yard line, the star tight end reeled in a play-action pass from Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, and the rest is history.
Check out Bowers smiling ear-to-ear as he reminisces about the play, one he’s had to have replay in his mind over and over again in the months since.
“I remember they called it, and I was like, ‘Alright, let’s go.’ I just remember doing my little stuff, going out, Stetson [Bennett] kind of floated it out there and I thought I was going to get whacked by someone. It felt like it was floating up there forever,” Bowers harkened back. “But just caught it, and Marcus [Rosemy-Jacksaint] made a great block. No one else was out there, so just ran it in.”
Brock Bowers may not make a more important catch over the rest of his football career. The touchdown that helped Georgia end their over 40-year title drought will live on forever, but the star tight end has plenty of football ahead of him in his future.

More on Brock Bowers, Georgia tight end room
Moreover, the Georgia Bulldogs have knocked tight end recruiting out of the park in the last few years, giving head coach Kirby Smart a surplus of talent at the position for 2022. Speaking on the Crain & Co. Podcast last month, Smart discussed his plans for Arik Gilbert, Darnell Washington, Brock Bowers, and Oscar Delp, among others in the room at tight end.
With limited snaps to go around, the Bulldogs are going to use the former five-star and four-star talent on special teams as much as possible.
“We really like that room. What I really like is the competition within that room,” Smart said. “We’re trying to find roles on special teams. They can go out and help there and steal some more snaps because we lost three linebackers that got drafted at inside backer. It’s rare to find three inside backers that got drafted in the third round or better. We’re losing a lot of special teams snaps out of those guys. So those tight ends have got to cover it up.
“We’ll get the ball to those guys and spread it around because I think Coach Monken and Coach Hartley’s staff do a great job of getting the ball to the tight ends.”
