Brock Vandagriff had some fascinating insight into the adjustments he’s had to make while preparing for SEC opponents.

While Vandagriff is a former-five star recruit from the 2021 recruiting cycle, who was also the No. 22 overall recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he still recognizes it’ll be a challenge readying to play in the toughest conference in all of college football.

Speaking with the media, the Bulldogs signal caller explained his point of view, and what specifically he thinks will be an adjustment he’ll have to make.

“I don’t know, I feel like whenever you think about something like that, I feel like it’s kind of relative,” stated Vandagriff. “Maybe you’re at a smaller school like single-a. Maybe your o-line aren’t as good, and you’re having to do this, this and this. I feel like whenever you get to the SEC, the d-line is a lot better, your o-line is a lot better and stuff like that. So guys are faster. That was the main thing for me.

“It’s just, it’s tighter windows when you’re throwing the ball. Tighter windows, timing’s more important. Your dude’s not going to be able to sit there for three seconds before you get them the ball. He’s going to be covered. Just the game-flow and the game-speed has been the biggest transition. It helps being able to go against one of the best defenses in the country every day at practice.”

Vandagriff makes a good point about the Bulldogs defense. Iron sharpens iron, and going up against his Georgia teammates in practice will definitely help him improve in the long run.

Still, there remains a chance that Vandagriff won’t be the team’s starting quarterback, as he’s embroiled in a competition with Carson Beck

The two Georgia signal-callers are fighting for the right to be Stetson Bennett’s replacement for the Bulldogs moving forward. Regardless, Vandagriff believes it’s simply a healthy competition, with both guys pushing each-other to be better players.

“I think it just really comes down to healthy competition,” started Vandagriff. “If you have a dude that’s one of the best in the nation or wherever, and then you have a couple of lesser opponents, that guys not going to get pushed every day in practice. I mean, we have three of four dudes that are just, they’re biting at the nip every time they’re out there. Just you know, hey man, after this play if I’ve got a question, turn around and ask somebody what did they see, like what did you see on this play.

“It’s just a really healthy competition, because everybody’s pushing the other to be great, and then you can turn around in the meeting rooms and say hey, I think you could’ve done this better, or what’d you see on this play. It’s just a good environment, and I’m glad to be here.”

As you can see, Brock Vandagriff has the right mindset to be successful in Athens, and nobody should doubt his ability. When his time comes, he’ll be prepared.
