Now entering his second season as the starting quarterback of the Georgia Bulldogs, Carson Beck can feel the weight of expectations on his shoulders.

While attending the Manning Passing Academy, Beck shared how he handles the expectations of being the quarterback at Georgia. He explained that he loves pressure but it’s more important to just go out and play.

“I feel like, for me, I love pressure situations,” Carson Beck said. “So, as much pressure as you want to put on me, I’m gonna rise to the occasion or settle back to my training. That’s what a lot of people like to say. But, no. Really as far as expectations and pressure go. It’s football at the end of the day, and for me, I’m just going out there and playing the sport I love.”

2023 was Carson Beck’s first season as the starting quarterback at Georgia. He led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and an Orange Bowl win. However, thanks to an SEC Championship Game loss, Georgia missed out on the Playoff and wasn’t able to win a third straight national championship, something there was certainly pressure to do.

Carson Beck was good for Georgia in 2023 statistically too. He finished the season completing 72.4 percent of passes for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns. Now, he’s considered by many to be a Heisman contender in 2024.

“You know, just stay grounded. I know there’s a lot of noise,” Beck said. “I know there’s a lot of extra stuff around the University of Georgia itself, especially being the quarterback. It’s going to be even more elevated, but just work every single day, do what I do, and we’ll go win games.”

Georgia is a school with plenty of expectations at quarterback. Carson Beck’s predecessor Stetson Bennett won two national championships there. On top of that, the school has produced plenty of legendary quarterbacks, like Matthew Stafford and Fran Tarkenton.

Carson Beck says the Heisman Trophy is a team award

Carson Beck is coming into 2024 as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Still, he believes that this is a team award.

“It’s 100% a team trophy. As a quarterback, my success is very much dependent on the offensive line. It’s very much dependent on how our running backs play. It’s very much dependent on if our defense can get stops. It’s very much dependent on if our wide receivers can go make contested catches. Get open,” Beck said.

“At the end of the day, it is very much a team-oriented goal. But, obviously, it’s not my main goal. But, if I was able to get there, obviously it’d be a dream come true.”
