Carson Beck explains why watching football isn't fun for him
Carson Beck may be one of the best quarterbacks in college football, but when he has some time away from the game, he’s not itching to tune in to see what’s going on elsewhere on the gridiron.
Following an exhilarating victory in Week 14 against Georgia Tech, the Georgia quarterback explained that he doesn’t watch football in his free time. Evidently, it’s not fun for him, and his mind is hyper-focused on each little detail, so he prefers to limit his consumption to film work, among other things.
“I don’t watch football,” Beck stated, via his postgame press conference, asked if he was going to tune in for Texas at Texas A&M. “I know that sounds kind of crazy, but I don’t enjoy watching football. It’s not fun for me. I watch film. So, I’ll explain for a second what I mean by that. If I watch that game, I’m not going to be able to just sit there and enjoy it. I’m going to stress myself out the whole entire time. Watching the defense, I’m like, ‘Why this coverage?’ I’m like, ‘Well why did he throw it there against this coverage?’ But I mean, you could learn from watching it, but it’s stressful for me, because I don’t ever get my break, whenever it comes to football.
“But I’ve watched the film back, obviously now, knowing that we’re going to be playing Texas in the SEC Championship. Their defense is really good. They have a lot of talent on defense. Their defensive coordinator does a good job of putting them in good positions. Executing and playing at a high level. Just excited for the opportunity to play them again.”

Alas, there’s nothing inherently wrong with Beck not watching football every waking second. As long as he’s getting his film work in and keeping his eye on the prize, Georgia fans will be okay if he decides not to tune in when the Bulldogs aren’t playing.
Time will tell if Carson Beck can lead Georgia to an SEC championship after falling short last season, but if he doesn’t, it won’t be because he wasn’t locked in, watching the games like the rest of us last Saturday, that’s for sure.
