Carson Beck, Georgia offense still searching for identity after four weeks
To no surprise, the Georgia Bulldogs took care of business yet again against another non-conference opponent defeating UAB at home 49-21 on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ offense seemed to be firing on all cylinders using a balanced offensive attack to pick apart the Blazers.
But following the game, quarterback Carson Beck was asked if he likes the direction the offense is going, revealing that he still believes his unit has room to grow and an identity to embody.
“Yeah absolutely, we obviously have a far ways to go,” Beck said. “We’re still trying to find our identity and what that is, but I think that we’re picking up steam and we’re starting to build chemistry and just figuring out who we are as an offense.”
Georgia’s offensive identity crisis may have to do more with their competition than themselves this early in the season.
The Bulldogs’ production has been there through four weeks, ranking second in the SEC in yards per game averaging 496.5, and third in points per game scoring 41.5 points per contest on opponents. They also boast the conference’s second most effective passing attack only behind the LSU Tigers who rank tenth in the nation in that department.
But with Georgia facing two Group of Five opponents and one FCS opponent to start the season, they’ve really been able to have their way and attack those defenses in whichever way they want. There’s no doubt that it’s a good problem to have at large, but when trying to find an identity on offense, it helps to face stiff competition in order to learn which areas of your personnel and scheme work best versus the best.

But competition aside, Carson Beck feels that the offense still got closer towards finding their identity on Saturday night.
“Absolutely, it was definitely a start. On the road next week in the SEC at Auburn, super excited about that,” Beck said. “I think it will be a good test for us and another chance for us to start to find our identity.”
The Bulldogs have been more of a pass-heavy offense to start the season, but in their one game against conference opponent South Carolina, they rushed for the most yards they have in a game this season and threw for a season low.
It will definitely be interesting to see their plan of attack as they face their second SEC foe of the season, as Beck and the Bulldogs face Auburn at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in a game airing on CBS.
