Carson Beck praises early production from transfer playmakers
Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas are catching on to Georgia‘s offensive schemes at a rapid pace, according to Bulldogs QB Carson Beck.
Beck, who is in competition to be named Stetson Bennett‘s successor as QB1, works with the two wide receiver transfers each day in practice. Both are coming into the program from SEC schools, and both hope to become instant-impact players in Mike Bobo’s offense.
“They’ve been doing really good, they work really hard. Obviously, our offense is really complex in certain ways,” Beck said of his new teammates. “But they’re catching up fast and they’re doing a lot of extra stuff to try and catch up and try to first in. But they go out there, work really hard, and have been making plays all spring.”
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said that while the two have impressed early, there has been minor learning curves regarding both wideouts this spring, but that’s expected. Lovett has picked up on things fast and Smart has been pleased with how his new wideout has performance this spring, while Thomas suffered a bone-bruise on his knee and was sidelined for a couple of practices earlier this training period and is needing to clean up on the small things now that he’s back on the field.
Thomas was Mississippi State’s leading wide receiver last season in their air raid offensive attack, ending the year with 44 catches for 626 yards and seven touchdowns. He was the Bulldogs’ go-to guy out wide last season, and could be the same for Georgia once the season begins.

“The biggest thing with Rara is that he’s shown us some ability to make plays downfield, which we think we really need,” Smart said of Thomas. “He catches the ball well.”
For Lovett, he was also his team’s leading receiver in 2022, hauling in 56 passes for 846 yards and three scores for Missouri. He ranked No. 3 in the SEC in receiving yards per game and No. 7 in catches per game. Last season against Georgia, Smart got a first-hand look at Lovett as he hauled in six passes for 84 yards in their matchup with the Tigers.
The first chance Georgia fans will able to see what Lovett and Thomas bring to the table as Bulldogs is raidly approaching. Annual G-Day spring game festivities are set for April 15 at Sanford Stadium, while kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET live on ESPN2.
