Carson Beck reveals he has a 'great relationship' with Nick Saban despite decommitment
One of the most popular players in college football this year will be Carson Beck, and being under the microscope is nothing new to the Georgia gunslinger.
Beck was a top-notch recruit long before he was piloting the offense of one of college football’s true juggernauts. It actually gave him the chance to run across one of college football’s other juggernauts: Nick Saban.
The talented quarterback has a healthy respect for the former Alabama coach.
“Obviously I was committed there, I want to say it was my sophomore year of high school to just after my junior year going into my senior year is when I decommitted and committed to Georgia,” Carson Beck explained at SEC Media Days. “I’d say I have a great relationship with coach Saban, obviously one of the best if not the best college coach of all time.”
Beck has plenty going for him as is, but he’s also not above taking some lessons from Saban in terms of how he goes about readying for a season. There are some morsels that can make a big difference if digested properly.

That’s where the Georgia standout is looking to gain an extra edge this season.
“His demeanor, the way he approaches the game, his intelligence level towards football, the respect that he demands from his players,” Carson Beck said. “I think we have a great relationship. Obviously I never got to experience him actually being a coach, but from what I’ve heard and what I was able to see in building a relationship with him he’s an amazing coach and an amazing person as well.”
Few would deny that. Saban was as successful as they come in the sport, and the way he could frame just about anything to coax the most out of his players was expert.
If, as a leader, Beck can channel some of that this season, Georgia could be right back on top of the college football world again.
At the very least, Nick Saban has Carson Beck’s respect.
