'I want to be coached by the best': 4-star CB Daniel Harris commits to Georgia
Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep four-star cornerback Daniel Harris committed to Georgia back in July over the likes of Penn State, Michigan and a number of others.
The No. 42 prospect in the 2023 On300 had second thoughts, though. In November, he decommitted from the Bulldogs and reopened his recruitment. He almost committed to the Nittany Lions. But the more he talked to coaches and thought about his future, the more he knew he was meant to be in Athens.
On Wednesday morning, he re-committed to Kirby Smart and Co., joining an elite defensive class headed to Georgia.
“I was going back and forth, it was really tough. But Georgia is the school I want to be coached by,” he told On3. “I want to be coached by the best and playing with the best. That gives me the ability to compete and play against the best guys. I want to compete with them and get better with them.”
Tight bond with Fran Brown played a big role for Harris
Leading the charge for Georgia was defensive backs coach Fran Brown, who had a longstanding relationship with Harris. Even after he decommitted, Harris heard all the time from Brown about what playing at Georgia could do for him both at the college level and potentially the NFL.

“Coach Fran and me are real close. We’ve known each other for a while,” Harris said. “I think he was one of the first ones he offered, and then after that we got really close. So we’ve just been building a relationship. He was just telling me about how guys at Georgia get drafted higher because they know they’re competing against the best.”
Harris doesn’t plan to enroll early and will instead join the Bulldogs during the summer. But he can’t wait to get up to Athens and get going.
“I’m really excited because I know I’ll be developed,” he added, “playing against the best of the best and winning.”
