Darnell Washington shares what makes Georgia TEs 'unique'
Darnell Washington and the Georgia Bulldogs have a very unique tight end room.
The star pass catcher said so to On3’s J.D. PicKell during the national championship media days leading up to the game. Along with Washington, Georgia features Brock Bowers, Washington and Oscar Delp as weapons that need to be accounted for, something TCU surely has in mind.
But Washington broke down why teams have to be aware of all three guys in the offense, regardless if they’re catching or blocking.
“We all bring different playing styles to the game,” Washington said. “It’s a mismatch in the blocking or even in the passing game, so I feel like we’re unique you know? We all feel the same and I feel like that’s what’s special. Each team can’t play us the same you know, like most teams got one tight end and or a couple of tight ends. You can like, put the safety on them or use a linebacker. I feel like you can’t do that with us.”
This season, Washington has 27 catches, 426 yards, two touchdowns and 15.8 yards per catch. Bowers meanwhile is dominant with 56 catches, 790 yards, six touchdowns and 14.1 yards per catch.
Speaking ahead of the game, head coach Kirby Smart stated he’s “hopeful” Washington would be on the field for the game amid his injury and reaffirmed how much the tight end wants to be on the field.
“We’re hopeful we can get Darnell ready to play,” stated Smart. “He’s continued to work really hard, done a lot of rehab. I know he really wants to. This is his first chance to play on the west coast. He’s from Vegas. This game means a lot to him. I know it’s an important one.”

Moreover, Washington was seen in a boot and on crutches during last week’s victory over Ohio State, and his return would be huge for the Bulldogs
Washington is a game-changer. If he’s not on the field, the Horned Frogs will have one less thing to worry about, and it won’t be good news for the Bulldogs.

Time will tell if the star tight end is able to go, but it would be disappointing for him to have to miss the biggest game of the season.
